Lesia Ukrainka’s correspondence with another pioneering feminist writer Olha Kobylianska lasted for 14 years, from 1899 to 1913. Their letters are filled with tenderness and love but also longing. After one of their meetings, they started referring to each other with coded and gender-neutral "someone", "somebody". In their letters, they drew lines to describe the movements of their hands, attempting to create closeness despite the distance.
